There's no place like home

While JonTon+D were down for Christmas, Tonia and I took a walk around the lake. It was so beautiful! The lake froze over almost all the way, there was only a section of it that wasn't frozen because of the fountain. It was a great walk. Enjoy some of the pictures we took.

This is Tonia and I next to the new pathway that was just put in at the lake. It's a great background for my pictures.

Wrapping up the semester

Hey guys. Sorry it's been a while since I've blogged. Life has been pretty routine around here, work, homework, friends, facebook, sleep. lol. But I only have 10 more days till I go on Christmas Break! YAY! I'm really excited. Sunday and Monday and this morning were all pretty packed with homework and schoolwork. Sunday night I got home (w/ no bee incidents I must add) and continued to work on my paper for Personality Theory. It took a long time becuase the professor wasn't really clear on what he wanted from us. I worked on it until 12:30 when I finally finished it! Then the next day I had class until 3, (and I slept through chapel! but I don't feel bad because it is the first time I did that this semester.) then I worked from 4-8. I then finished my discussion question for Youth and Adolescent Psych. Then I the dorm had a mandatory Christmas party, which was a lot of fun and a good break from studying, but I still had a paper to write and I hadn't even started on it! So I went down to my room around 11, and quickly started laundry and took a shower, then started on my paper around 12:00 and finished arount 1:30. Luckily it was only supposed to be 3 pages long!
I think the rest of the week will be less stressful, and I have 5 finals next week, so I have to work on those. But I think that it will all turn out ok. I'm less stressed now that Sunday and Monday are over! lol. I will be in bed at a decent hour tonight! YAY!

Prewitt Pageant!

Every Year, Prewitt Dorm puts on a prewitt Pageant that is only for the women in Prewitt. Last Thursday was Prewitt Pageant. There are several events at the pageant, but the main one is the talent show. Each hall is their own team, and whoever wins the most events, won a gold tv this year. Because oru hall is in the basement under the Van Gilder side, for our talent, we put on a "Win a Date with Miss VG" And we all dressed up as the men of Corban. There was Miss VG, of course, and then her two parents, two hosts, and 9 "men." There was the typical Jock, two nerds, a security guard, a preppy/narcissistic skater, an emo/poet/theater/artistic man, a surfer, a Farrarian (one of the men's dorms is Farrar, and they are all kinda hairy, and wear bandannas for some reason...) and the all-around-do-everything guy, which I played. This guy is that guy on campus who is in everything, like ASB, worship team, fellowship president, and he of course majors in pastoral ministry. It was really funny to play these roles and get dressed up.

So our hall didn't win the talent show, but we won the overall competition and took home the golden TV!! YAY for the Basement Babes!! Our hall above, with the golden TV.

After winning Prewitt Pageant, we all went out to Shari's at midnight to celebrate, and we kept our costumes on just for fun. Outside of Shari's was a cop car, so Kate, who played the security guard in the skit, had to pose for a picture.
Us waiting for a seat at shari's. Yes, that is the apron I made on Mickayla on the left! She played the mom in the skit, so she had a plate of cookies and wore my apron! It was pretty great.

The amazing Golden TV!

Wait....Where are we going again?

Hey guys. Tonight some of my hall mates decided to go on a late night run to Sonic to get ice cream and such. So all five of us piled into a very small two door car and drove there, but when we got there it was closed. Very sad day, because I totally wanted to try Sonic for the first time, cuz it sounds really cool. So since that was closed, we chose to go to Dairy Queen. Great! Dairy Queen has ice cream to so why not? However, we drive by and see that it is closed as well, but Jack in the Box is right next door and they have a sign that says 24 hour drive thru! YAY! so we finally catch a break--not! "Hey mister we would like 4 milkshakes--",
"Oh, our milkshake machine is broken"
"Ok, fine we don't want anything than!"
Darn town is falling apart and what's a college student to do?!? (I know what you're thinking, does this story ever end...no it doesn't)
Luckily, Walmart is open 24 hours a day, so we go there and finally we get our ice cream! YAY! I decided on a pack of fudge bars, yum...and it was so good! (btw, the subway in Walmart was open later than all those fast food places what's up w/ that?!?) But wait the story isn't over, I'm like, hey roomie, will your freezer keep these lovely fudge bars frozen? Mmm....no, my freezer isn't working now, and it's almost midnight and the lobby closes! AHHH! So I run up the stairs and cram my fudge bars into the freezer in the lobby kitchen, and realize while I'm up there that I don't have a pen to write my name on it...so I am hoping that somebody doesn't get to it before I can write my name on it tomorrow...cuz, I paid like 3 bucks for those and they were so good....but at least they aren't melting. lol. So that was my adventure tonight. Us college students got it rough!

Gobbler Race! (read the next blog first)

I couldn't put these pictures in the other post for some reason so I posted them here....sorry for the confusion.

There was also a hot dog eating contest, in which I did not participate, and this weird race thing, where the racers put their legs in the arms of giant sweatshirts and their head in the head hole, and they kinda looked like turkeys, and then raced. It was called the gobbler race or something like that. It was just amazing.

Fall Has Arrived and is in Full Swing!

Hey everyone. I have had a wonderful Saturday, even though I had to sit through a CPR class for 8 hours! I took a CPR class today for an extra credit towards my degree. It was pretty good info to have, but I the room was absolutely FREEZING! I was shivering the whole day. It was rather funny because at the very end, we talked about hypothermia, and I was going through the checklist in my mind and wondering if I could have hypothermia right then. lol. j/k. It was rather cold though.

In the feild across the street from us, there are pumpkins growing, and it is so great to see them every day! (Even though I don't really like the taste of pumkins, there is still something about them that says welcome to this happy fall day.)

This evening, after warming up with dinner and a cup of hot chocolate, I ironed my red dress and my hallmates and I headed off to the barn party! It was so much fun! We got lost on the way, but once we got there, we had a blast. I learned how to square dance, and it was so much fun! I've never been much of a dancer when it came to dancing with a partner, and maybe it was just becuase we were all beginners and we were going pretty slow, but I really caught on fast and desided that it is really fun. It's also pretty good for us single girls who don't know any guys, because you don't necessarily stay with the same guy the whole time, and if you do and don't like him, you aren't really next to eachother too much so it doesn't matter anyway!

A is for Apron

Hey everyone. I know it's been a while since I posted a blog, but things have been pretty routine around here, so the post would have been pretty boring. Last weekend was a three day weekend and I went home. I had fun hanging out with friends, and family. On Friday, I did some homework and watched a movie with a friend. On Saturday, I made this apron! I had this idea for a long time, but I hadn't found a pattern that I liked, or fabric either. So last weekend after the wedding, we stopped by a quilt shop that was going out of business and I got this pink and green fabric on sale, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Then this weekend mom helped me make a pattern for the apron, and I made it on Saturday afternoon. It was so much fun being able to sew again! (even if there were a lot of mistakes that I had to take out, lol) I really enjoyed being home again. I drove home Sunday afternoon in time to work at 6:30, and it feels like I've been going non-stop ever since! I worked tonight also, but I don't have to work until next Sunday, so now I can focus on my homework. Woohoo. Anyway, I suppose I should get going to bed or something constructive like that.

Dorm Days

Hey guys. Last night, my dorm had a hang out time from midnight to 3 for all they guys and girls. We played some games; I learned two new games, Killer Bunny, and Bang!, which are kinda the same type of games as munchkin, and they are fun. I was the first one out in Bang!, then I went and won Killer Bunny, so that's great. It was a lot of fun. Then around 1:30, both RDs, (which are a husband and wife) surprised everyone with a plastic ball attack (which is w/ those plastic balls that are in ball pits) and we all had fun attacking each other w/ plastic balls. After about a half hour, the RD (Jen), my RA (Bonnie) and another girl from my hall and I slipped out to the patio and watched through the windows, as the fight continued for another half hour! It was so much fun! After that, things calmed down a bit and a lot of people went to bed, but I stayed up and played poker with some of the the dorm mates. I lost...pretty fantastically. lol. I got to bed around 3 AM, but it was totally worth it. Today, I have some homework to do, then I'm gonna hang out with a friend of mine upstairs. I am so glad it's Saturday!

Angels and Saints

Hello Everyone. I am feeling less stressed now because I just finished my psych homework, so I feel like I can blog again. This weekend was fellowship rush. In case you guys don't know, fellowships at Corban are like Sororities and fraternities at public colleges. They even have Greek letters and stuff. They have events for the whole school, as well as bible studies and events for those in the fellowship. So I joined the Angels and they have a "brother" fellowship which is called the Saints. There are about six fellowships on campus. So they all put on these skits and tell us about themselves and then we run to the fellowship we want to join and we go through initiation. Some initiations are nice, others aren't but they are never horrible. One of the men's fellowship had them all shave their heads! lol. But the Angels were pretty nice, we just post-it noted the guys' cars in front of their dorm. (The Saints were led through the underground tunnels at Corban, which I think is pretty cool.) After that we lit candles and introduced ourselves an then we had an after party and played games. It was pretty cool. I think it will be a good way to get to know more people and to have fun. So now I am going off to work, so I'll ttyl.

Why Couldn't It Have Been Butterflies!

Hi everyone! My week has been pretty good. I visited another church called Salem Alliance, and it was very big. The sermon was good, but I am going to keep looking. Wednesday night the girls of Prewitt had a hang out night at Midnight where we hung out and played games to get to know each other better. I stayed until 1:00 and then went to bed because I had a 9:00 class in the morning, but I know that the party kept going until around 3:oo! I'm glad I left when I did. Last night, Thursday night, some girls and I went to Walmart at around 11:00 and bought random stuff that we needed. Then we came back around midnight and Megan, my roommate, was going to put her bed on cinder blocks. I was just getting out of the shower and brushing my hair when she yells, "Spider!" and screams. At this point she had just stripped her bed of her sheets and I had no glasses on, so not knowing where the spider is, I run and jump on my bed and join her in the screaming. She points to the pile of sheets and I see a silver dollar sized spider crawling into a fold of her sheets (which I had just ran past on my way to the bed). Neither one of us feels capable of killing the spider, so Megan runs to get help and I stand helpless and half blind staring at the fuzzy pile that is the sheets and the spider therein. Thankfully, Megan returned quickly with a hallmate, and I run out the door when she enters. I hear screaming and then silence while standing in the hall in my PJ's without my glasses on and my hair half brushed. By now the other girls in the hall peak out to see why we are all screaming and I tell them. After a safe amount of time, I peak my head back in the room and they inform me that the spider is dead, and I reclaim my glasses. Both Megan and I are tired, but she still has her bead half torn apart, and I we are both completely freaked out. So we put her bed up on cinder blocks and she finds the spider web that the spider was living in under her bed, and destroys it with none other than the power of Windex, which she also sprays around the window for good measure. I am still a little freaked out so I remake my bed and thoroughly search the area for spiders, and once satisfied that there are none around, I go to sleep. By this time it is around 1:oo, so I have had two late nights and have seen enough spiders to last a lifetime! I have never been so happy to see a Friday before!

Toga Parties and Gladiator Games

Hi everyone! Today is Friday and I am excited for the weekend. Classes are going great. Today one of the Fellowships (which is like a christian serority) put on a toga party/gladiator battle. People dressed up in togas and showed off thier stuff in a fashion show. There were two catagories, most creative toga, and tackiest toga. I was kinda like, that's lame at first, but then I started thinking about togas in general and got kinda excited. So I went to Walmart and got some stuff on sale and got together with my hallmates to go to the toga party. It was a blast. There wasn't a lot of people there, but it was still fun. There was also a gladiator event for the guys. They were in teams of four and battled eachother with plastic swords...it kinda reminded me of that weird group that gets together at the lake and fights eachother, but I have to admit it was fun to watch. These guys were very in to it. They were launching off of their teammates and lunging into the other team and doing crazy stunts. It was really funny to watch. Kinda scary, but seriously halarious. That's all I have for you guys for now. I have pics for you below.

This the group of us that went to the toga party. From the left, Sarah, Rachel, Me, and Whitney.
This is me in my toga yay. I bought the white sheet on sale at Walmart as well as the pink curtain. I was in the "most creative" catagory, but I didn't win anything.
This is Rachel, she is adorable. She is my RA's (Bonnie) roomate.
This is Sarah. She is the funniest girl in the hall. She won tackiest toga! It was amazing. Everything on her was stars, she even had shoes with stars on them! Very creative.
These are some of the crazy guys who did the gladiator type games with plastic swords and cardboard shields. It was insanity.

First Week

Hey guys. I am doing very well here. I started work on Monday evening, and that was fine. I was doing the grill, and I was really tired afterwords, but I also worked Saturday in the dish room, and that was fine. I am trying to see if they will let me switch my Saturday shift for another day so that I can make trips home and stuff. I also work tonight at 6:30. Classes started on Wednesday, and I enjoyed them. They are kinda overwhelming just because there are 6 of them when I am only used to 4, and they last a lot longer than my other classes lasted because it s a semester not a quarter. However, I think that I will be able to handle it. lol. I am making friends here. My hall mates are hilarious! There is this one girl named Sarah who makes me laugh every time I see her. I am also good friends with my RA, Bonnie. There are only, about 16 of us down in the basement, which is nice, because I already know a lot of them and it is easier to grow close to them. I went to Salem Heights Church this morning with Bonnie, and I enjoyed it. I am going to visit a few other churches though just to see if I can find one with a worship service more like I am used to. I went to the early service, so my hall is very quiet with only me and Bonnie here.
Earlier this week my cell phone stopped working for a couple days, but then a friend of mine told me to turn it off and on, and that fixed it. It turns out that if I just turn it on in the basement where there is no service, and then leave, then it still doesn't connect to the service. So I have to turn if off and then on again to make sure it gets service.
Today I have to do homework and then I work in the evening. I really enjoyed my first week, and I am excited about starting my next one. I hope you guys are all having a good life back at home.
Love you lots,
bye.

Settling In

So this weekend has been kinda Jam-packed with events and stuff. Yesterday we went to a "workshop" on how to get involved in Corban. We had other choices but that was the best one. It was fine, but it was basically ASB telling us all of their fun events coming up. lol. My roomate and I desided to skip the evening games because I hadn't slept very well the night before and she wanted to go to a craft store, and I went with her. It was the most amazing craft store ever! It had fabric, (and I think it has a quilting club), and card making stuff, stamps and then all other crafting supplies possible. My roomate and I found these awesome stamps that are CLEAR!!! Which makes it so easy to line them up on the paper. They were also in the bargain bin for a dollar each, and each packet had about 3 stamps, so I bought 3 of them. I'm kinda excited about them.
Then today, instead of scrambling to find a local church, Corban had a sunday survice. They normally don't but because it was the first weekend, they did. It was fine. Later, my core group all went to Silver Falls, which is about 35 minutes away. We took a bus, and I sat in the way back and got kinda car sick, but luckily the drive wasn't too long. When we reached the park, we ate and went on a hike. The hike was beautiful, but I am super out of shape and the way back was all up hill, so I kinda lagged behind. This really nice guy stayed behind with me though, which was sweet, but I was kinda embarressed because he was real athletic and I was out of breath and sweating alot, and it started to kinda sprinkle just as we were getting back. But we finally got back and we watched some of the more energetic people play volley ball. I just know I am going to be sore tomarrow.
Tonight, my dorm hall had a get-together. There are about 15 of us, and a lot of them are Freshmen, which is fine. I really like that it is a smaller group. We played games and talked. It was cool though becuase one of the games was telephone pictionary, and that's the first time I've played it out of my family.
Tomarrow is another busy day. It looks like I will have a lot of events with my core goup, which is good becuase it gives me a chance to chat w/ people. I will try to blog often.
Bye.

Arrival at Corban

Hi guys! I am all moved in at Corban now! YAY! Mom, Dad and I packed up my car and theirs early Friday morning and were on the road by 9:00. We arrived around 11:00 and went to the gym to sign in and stuff. That took about an hour and a half. Then we started moving all my stuff into the room. We soon ran into my new roommate, who I don't have a picture of yet...sorry. After several trips to buy necessary wires, and tacks, I finally felt settled. There were a few glitches, my tv ended up not working, and it took a lot longer to move in than we first estimated. All too soon Mom and Dad needed to leave. It was an emotional goodbye, but after they left I made a new friend and went down to dinner. That night we were split into our "core groups" which are basically support groups I guess. All the transfer students are in one core group. These groups meet periodically and do fun stuff and talk....at least that's the impression I got. Today has been rather slow, . . . although I kinda feel like things are going too fast and I am already falling behind. lol. However I'm sure that will pass once I get into the groove of the schedule and stuff. I still need to buy books, and I was going to after dinner, I brought my wallet and everything, then I realized that I forgot my class schedule in my dorm room....at the very top of the hill that is Corban. . . . so once I walked all the way up here again, I decided to wait for a while before I went down again. . . . grr. I guess I should go. I will keep you updated on everything.
Bye.

It's getting closer-only 5 more days

Hi everyone. I am getting more excited every day for my upcoming move to college. I have been working on my packing. I have about 5-6 boxes packed and stacked in Laura's old room. I have about another 1-2 boxes I can pack now, but most of it has to wait for the night before I leave, or even the morning of, like my clothes, and my pillow and alarm clock and stuff. I have gotten everything I need to buy, the last things I bought this afternoon included a clip on lamp for my bed and a pair of pants for work. I am feeling more ready, and now I am just counting down the days! I have packed week ahead of me. Tomorrow, Laura is throwing a going away party for me and some of my friends and I am having a family going away event on Tuesday. I am finishing up work for Freedom Bookkeeping this week, and also for my nannying job. Things are looking to be in order! I saw JonTon+D last weekend and that was fun. They were here for several days so I had fun hanging out with David while they climbed a mountain and just hanging out with JonTon also. (From what I heard of the trip up the mountain, I am not at all anxious to make that trip any time soon!) I'm going to miss everyone a lot, but I am so excited to start this next chapter of my life, and to face the many challenges of being "on my own", although I don't know if living in a sheltered Christian college dorm can be considered "on my own." lol. Well, I suppose that is it for now. Not much else to say. I will see most of you later this week, and then I'll be off!
'Till then,
Bye

17 days until I move to Corban

So the countdown has started, and I am super excited. I started cleaning my room yesterday, but I didn't get very far. I cleared out a corner of my room, and bagged up my bedding that I am bringing, but other than that, not much is done. I am going to work on it again this afternoon. I also went shopping last night with Mom. We went to Walmart and got most of everything on my list. Some of the big stuff included a printer, hair dryer, and new sheets, but the list went on and on after that. It was kinda fun though, because, I got to pick out my own laundry soap, and I got some that smells amazingly good. It is Gain Joyful Expressions, and it is completely girly and awesome. It smells like fruit! It was kinda funny because I had smell all the soap and my nose got kinda overwhelmed by all the scents. lol! We were exhausted after we were done, but I feel like we are getting more prepared, which is good because I am leaving in a little over 2 weeks.
The Terry Taylor garage sale was last weekend, and I really enjoyed seeing everyone. David is so much more active now. It is so great seeing him eat real food....well real baby food anyway. lol. At the garage sale I got a cool lamp for my desk at school. I also got some cute black with white polka dot shoes (with bows). I also got three shirts, which is exciting.
I also found out what dorm I will be in and who my roommate is. I will be living in Prewitt (which was my first choice of dorms), which is the girl's wing of Prewitt VanGilder. VanGilder is the guys wing, and it is connected by a common room. I will be living in the basement hall, which is smaller, but still has other girls down there. It also has different windows. Also, the laundry is in the basement, so it will be easier to get laundry done. My roommate is named Megan Wozniak. She is from California. She is blonde and really pretty. She is transferring in as a Junior just like me. She is double majoring in Journalism and Business. I have talked a little with her and we seem to get along pretty nicely.
I don't know what else there is to say, so I guess I will sign off now. I am going to try to post once a week, unless a bunch of exciting stuff happens and I can post more often. That way they can still be interesting, but not too far apart. We'll see how well that plan goes once I am at Corban. lol.
Bye guys.

A Fresh Start

Hi all. So I know that I have done this before and failed miserably, but I decided that I would try again to have a regular blog, especially because I am going off to college. So I created a whole new blog because I really didn't like the name of the other one and I kinda forgot my password to the other one....lol. So if you haven't done so already, delete your links to the old blog and go ahead and put this link there instead.
So I guess I should tell you all what's up in my life recently. This is the last week of my summer class that I am taking through Corban. I only have to write a 7 page paper and then I'm done! YAY! I have been pretty focused on that so I haven't done much packing or cleaning of my room, much to my mother's dismay. lol. j/k. I have already started making a list of all the things I need to buy for college and it is getting pretty long. I'm running out of room on my paper! I will start cleaning and shopping after the Terry Taylor garage sale which if you didn't know is this weekend! YAY again! That also means that JonTon+D are coming down which is exciting. I am looking forward to seeing them and also the extended Riedesel clan. That will be fun.
I can't really think of anything else so I guess I'll finish up. I ask for Patience with my blogging because I don't know how faithful my posts will be, but I did want to start another one so here it is. I will try to use spell check also lol, but I must say that my spelling has improved greatly in the 4 years since I stopped blogging last. Okay so that's it for now.
Bye.
